The attached document is a flyer distributed on Saturday by the Coalition of Rutland City Public Employees. This flyer is full of lies, deceit and scare tactics. Please see the Treasurer's Report for actual projected savings of voting "YES" on these two articles. Total savings will be $927,278 per year. If these articles are approved we will enjoy the same level of city services and a reduction in the tax rate of $103.00 per year per average household. Please click here for the treasurer's report - then scroll down to the bottom where it lists Charter Articles.
Voting Yes on Article 3 & 4 will require all city employees to pay a minimum of 20% of the health insurance premiums. Currently Police Department pay nothing, teachers pay 10%, other municipals employees pay 7% up to 4% of their salary. THIS WILL SAVE TAXPAYERS MONEY, PLAIN AND SIMPLE. This will also align all municipal worker with the same percentage amount they pay towards their premiums.

ReplyDeleteI found it interesting that the flyer did not mention ths subject of the two articles. Why should the school and city employees continue to get a free ride on health insurance. Let them pay a share like most of us other working stiffs. Vote YES to require these City and School employees to pay 20% of their health insurance premiums. Many of these employees will earn more in retirement then they ever earned while working.
ReplyDeletehey shawn get a job. i own a business and i would never hire you because you don't stay in one place too long. at least city and state employee's are loyal. you people bad mouth the employee's they are the one's doing the work...it's the administration at city hall that's top heavy.. of course this won't be posted because you people are ONE-WAY...
ReplyDeleteSo much for sharing the pain with the residents with anonymous. You would think that our city employees would take pity on the City residents and agree to a form of short term (maybe two years) pay freezes and benefit cuts until the recession passes. When I look at a 11.71% or more tax increase on the city side, it makes me shudder. Another 14.9% on the school side, I feel like a sinking ship. This flyer from the united union employees of the City seems very self-serving and selfish on their part. They are well paid for their services (above the average household) and receive premium benefits. Health care for one employee family costs taxpayers $24,000 - $26,000 a year. Teachers contribute just 10%, Police 0, Fire, et al conribute from 4% to 7%. Asking for 20% is fair and still below the private sector.
ReplyDeletethanks to (run) doing away with the 85% tax cap by voting on the budget my taxes are going up. EVERY ONE SHOULD'NT LISTEN TO (RUN)
